Joelle shares the ancestry on both sides of her family with numerous artists, writers, inventors, and other creatives. She began drawing and painting at the age of 10, the same year she began writing stories and took her first photograph (left, "Lone Cypress" in Pebble Beach, August 1961) with her mother's old Ansco camera.
Joelle grew up in the Monterey/Carmel area of California, where she had nine years of private art and music instruction. She began with ink and watercolor, graduated to oils when she had a studio, but eventually settled on acrylics. She has painted commissioned works and illustrated articles, books, and book/CD covers. Over the years, her paintings have been displayed in galleries and art shows. As for photography, Joelle rarely leaves the house without a camera. She always relied on a wide variety of SLR and TLR cameras, mostly her film Rolleis. Olympus digitals and, on occasion, her trusty cell phone. She has photographed landscape portfolios, portraits of people and pets, head shots for "the stars of tomorrow," and a variety of other subject matter for articles and book/ CD covers. Lastly, she has photographed several places where she has lived or traveled throughout her life.
